The Ups and Downs of 2011
It’s that time of year, I guess. I haven’t done a great job writing things down this year, so hopefully these posts will make up for it a bit. (Except I wrote all of this in lieu of working out today … so I’ll have to make up for that now, too! Always behind, I am. Ooh … a little Yoda-ish today.)
A.ny.way. If you care to read everything, you’ll have to scroll down to get to January … but I’ve posted a little something for each month of 2011.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, Y’ALL!!!! Bring it on, 2012!!!!
And, just for fun, here’s a random video from when Mikey was only a few months old:
December 2011
Officially 3/4 done with my Master’s!!!!
12/9: Travis just ran up to me and exclaimed, "Mommy! The clock says it's one hundred!!" (It was 10:00.) He was so excited.
12/9: I said to Charlotte, "I love you, little one." She replied, "I love you too, big one."
12/9: Drove half-way to St. George, but turned around to come home because Charlotte was barfing. Had to stop about 17 times on the way home. Not fun ... but Mike and I feel like we completed some sort of parenting rite of passage.
I discovered my love for running. After a long time of forcing myself to do it over and over again, one day I realized that I actually crave it and my body loves it. Who knew?
For the past several months, every time Charlotte gets excited about something, she exclaims, “Wowsers!”Mikey’s Jedi cloak his birthmother made for him:

November 2011
11/7: Travis has been "casting spells" all day. So, I just started making dinner, and he walked up to me with a stuffed animal "holding" a pencil like a magic wand. He said, "Bibbity bobbity boo, make this woman cook dinner." I can hardly stop laughing!
11/10: the Marines had their birthday. The Marines have had a special place in my heart for a long time.
11/12: I had a very deep conversation with Mike about how Optimus Prime is good at yoga. Mike's best comment: "Well, I guess you have to be flexible if you can fold your head into your chest."
11/23: Charlotte: "Oh, freaking gosh it's cold!"
Thanksgiving at our house. I'm getting pretty good at timing everything just right, if I do say so myself. I love cooking!
Cornholio!
October 2011
September 2011
This was a hard month. Mike’s father died on September 5th after a valiantly fought battle with leukemia. Even though we knew the day would eventually come, it didn’t make it any easier. We will always miss Grandpa Rose – but we’re so glad to have known and loved such a great man, and to know that we will see him and hug him again someday.
9/16: Mikey got an “A” on his very first spelling test.
9/21: Charlotte: “I’m a super spy.” Me: “What makes you a super spy?” Charlotte: “Tape!” She had put scotch tape on her face and hands.
9/24: I got to go on a nice, long horseback ride in the Uintahs will a good friend. A very, very good day.
August 2011
Mike and I celebrated 12 years of marriage.
I got to weld for the first time at a School Counselor conference. It was awesome!
I started my internship. The light at the end of the tunnel is shining brighter all the time. Yeehaw!!
8/17: 311 at Usana. Awesome, as always.
Final camping trip of the summer.
First day of the new school year!
8/23: Today I told Travis to "stop acting like a snot rag." I made myself laugh.
8/25: At the park today, Travis asked me: "can you get the wood crackers off my shoes?" Then he laughed and said, "I mean wood CHIPS." Love that boy.
8/26: Women’s Equality Day!!!
“When I grow up, I want to be a police officer so I can get the guys when they be bad. And I need a police officer hat and police officer clothes and a police officer key to lock the cages of the guys doing bad things.” ~ Travis, 8/31/11

July 2011
We celebrated 10 years of owning our home. Wow.
The kids hiked to Timpanogas Caves with us – 1.5 miles each way – and NO ONE complained. All of our kids love the outdoors.
We had tons of tee-ball games and swimming lessons.
7/20: Travis quote of the day: "When I feel lonely, I just think happy thoughts - like our whole family eating popsicles."
Mike turned 34. The 30s really are awesome - the prime of life (for now!).
June 2011
I turned 32. Eep!
I cut my hair. I don’t regret it. It was fun. It will probably be the last time until I’m old, though. (No, 32 isn’t OLD!!)
6/16: Charlotte said to me, "Mommy, I wish I hadded wings so I could fly like a fairy."
Our last Father’s Day with Mike’s dad. He looked great.
6/21: Discovered that Sonic no longer makes my favorite Cherry Limeade Chiller. Lame!!
6/24: New York State legalized same-sex marriage. WoooooHooooo!!!
6/25: Re-pierced my nose. So glad I did. It’s so “me” and it makes me feel much less socially conventional. I like that.
6/26: My favorite professor at SLCC passed away.
6/28: Travis is better than any pet. He brought me a dead bird, complete with jiggling it around so I could see it better.
May 2011
Dental work. That’s what I get for not going to the dentist for {clears throat and mumbles untintelligibly} years.
Mike graduated from SLCC. Congrats again, babe. I'm very proud of you!!
For Mother’s Day, I got a night home alone. Bliss!
We started the sprinklers-in-the-front-yard project.
While playing with the toy phone: "9-1-1. Hello? Police officers? Someone be-ed bad. Take them to jail!" ~ Travis, 5/10/11
I started teaching Mikey piano lessons.
5/27: Mikey just gave me a taste of my own medicine. I stubbed my toe on the ice chest I left in the kitchen last night (I had to use it for Travis' preschool party). Mikey says, "Are you okay?" I said, "I'm fine, buddy." Then - this is where I get my medicine - he says, "Well, I guess that's why you shouldn't leave things in the middle of the floor."
“Mommy, you’re my favorite girl and my best friend.” ~ Charlotte, 5/30/11

April 2011
It was warm enough for the first couple of days of April, Mike was able to push the kids on the swings in the back yard. Those are moments I hope the kids will remember as they grow up. Mike is a great dad.
Travis, while pointing his finger: “Charlotte, I’m a cactus needle. Watch out, I’m sharp!” Then he started running towards her, “Look out before I cactus you!”
I had A LOT of internship interviews.
We dyed eggs with the kiddos for Easter. Mike's eggs were, not surprisingly, really cool.
4/26: Travis made an art project for me at preschool. He brought it home and told me that it was a butt. Thanks for the butt, Trav-dog.
March 2011
March 6th: Mikey requested the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song as his lullaby.
March 8th: International Women’s Day!!!
March 9th: Charlotte walked into the room wearing nothing but her panties, with her comforter draped over her shoulders. She said, "Look, Mommy. I'm an inventor princess!"
March 11th: 311 DAY!!!!!!!! I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I have always been and will always be “Down.” Nick, “SA,” Chad, Tim, and P-Nut are five of my favorite musicians.
March 14th: Pogo turned 13. She is the oldest Boston Terrier our vet tech has ever seen.
March 30th: Charlotte grabbed the broom and swept the kitchen floor ("Look, Mommy, I'm cleaning!"), then she lay down on the living room carpet and began to bench press the broom ("Look, Mommy, I'm exercising! I'm strong!").

February 2011
Looking back at my Facebook posts from February, I was definitely up for rockin’ the boat. Thanks to everyone who maturely engages with me in philosophical discussions. I love that stuff. Freakin’ love it!
In February, we celebrated Travis’ 5th birthday. He’s getting so big.
Mikey lost his first tooth – the one on the bottom right.
“I always use slobber to lick my sucker.” ~ Charlotte, 2/22/11
